Homeowners are being warned to protect their homes from burglary during warmer weather in the summer.

Humberside Police said it was investigating a number of burglaries across Hull and East Yorkshire.

The force urged people to keep doors and windows locked in unoccupied rooms, despite the warmer weather.

A spokesperson said nearly half of all burglaries were the result of a door or window being open.

Homeowners were also urged to fit alarms and security lighting to both homes and outbuildings.

Det Ch Insp Lauren Clough said: "I understand that burglary is an incredibly intrusive crime, and it can lead to victims feeling vulnerable in their own home.

"Throughout the summer, as part of Op Coastline and regular patrols, teams across the force are out and about regularly speaking and offering advice to local residents and businesses in order to help the community protect their property from being the target of crime."
