Police have seized nearly 50kg of cocaine – with an estimated street value of more than £1m – after stopping a vehicle in Kent.

Officers spotted an HGV being driven in a suspicious manner on the A20, near Hythe, at about 10:00 BST on 21 May, Kent Police said.

The vehicle was brought to a stop following a short pursuit, the force added.

Searches led to the discovery of three bags containing 46 blocks of white powder and two men were arrested on suspicion of drugs offences.

Dzmitry Danilah, a 36-year-old Belarusian national, and Klodian Marku, a 25-year-old Albanian national, have since been charged with being concerned in the importation of cocaine.

Danilah, of no fixed address, and Marku, of Vauxhall in London, have been remanded in custody.

They are to appear before Canterbury Crown Court on 22 June.
