The Times reports that one in seven officers from the force that detained Henry Nowak as he lay dying felt "controlled and pressured to feel certain ways" after receiving mandatory diversity training and believed mistakes would be "held against them", a staff survey showed.

The former home secretary under Labour governments, Jack Straw, has told the Daily Telegraph that anti-racism training has now gone "too far". He said there has been an "over-correction" since institutional racism allegations were made against the Met when he was in government, and says forces should pay less attention to "vocal pressure groups". The Sun's editorial says it would be better if ministers rooted out what it calls "dangerous groupthink" from institutions.

The Daily Mail highlights a call from the Conservatives for the officers who arrested Henry Nowak to face a misconduct investigation, while the Guardian carries a warning from the leader of the National Black Police Association that policing could be driven back to the 1960s because of claims that officers are biased against white people.

The Financial Times reports that the Treasury is taking control of the budget of a multi-billion pound fighter jet, to stop extra defence spending leading to cost overruns. It says the military will receive an additional £15bn of funding up to 2030, but the Treasury will have oversight of the jet project - a joint venture with Japan and Italy - because the Chancellor fears it is "the next HS2".

The Times, the Guardian and the Daily Mail report that Darren Jones, the chief secretary to the prime minister, sent a WhatsApp message to Lord Mandelson saying he was "so sorry" he'd been sacked as US ambassador on the day he was relieved of his duties. They say the messages were not released to parliament, but have now been leaked to the Spectator magazine.
