Olympians' gym destroyed by fire asks for help
PA MediaA gym used by Olympic medal-winning athletes has asked for community support after the building was destroyed in a fire.
Flames at Lynx Gymnastics Centre on Rabans Close in Aylesbury were first reported shortly before 09:00 BST on Thursday.
Twins Jessica and Jennifer Gadirova, who won bronze at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, trained at the venue.
"We are reaching out to plead for as much help as possible during this devastating time," said Lynx Gymnastics, in a statement.
"Whether that is through sharing our message, offering support in any way you can, or contributing to future fundraising and rebuilding efforts that will help us get back on our feet."
Lynx Gymnastics said there were no children or customers in the venue at the time and were thankful nobody had been hurt.
All roads in the area reopened at about 12:25 while emergency services remained at the scene.
A "Play Gym" session had been due to take place on Thursday morning but was cancelled so maintenance work could take place.
Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service said the cause of the blaze had not been confirmed but early indications suggested it was accidental.
Alex Pope/BBCFounded in 1986, the centre's members range from pre-schoolers and school-aged children, to competitive gymnasts.
A British Gymnastics spokesperson said the Gadirova twins were "still processing" what had happened.
The site has also been used by world, European and Commonwealth medallist Ondine Achampong.
Lynx Gymnastics said it was too early to know the full extent of the damage but the impact was "devastating".
The gym is closed until further notice, the owners said: "We will be working closely with the relevant authorities and assessing the situation over the coming days.
"At present, we anticipate that this will be a lengthy process before we are able to return."
