A city's seafront Pride event has been cancelled due to strong winds and heavy rain.

Thousands were expected at Portsmouth Pride which was due to feature music, drag acts and a parade from Hotwalls Studio, in Old Portsmouth, at 11:30 BST to the event's main stage on Southsea Common.

Organisers have urged people not to attend Southsea Common as the site is "unsuitable" due to the weather conditions. The Met Office has forecasted heavy rain and wind gusts for Portsmouth of up to 46 mph (74km).

A new date has not been set for this year with the next Pride due to take place on 12 June 2027, on Castle Field.

The parade and event is a celebration of LGBTQ+ communities and is free and open to all.

Last year, the city took centre stage as it hosted the UK Pride 2025 celebrations.
