Man charged with two counts of rape

A man has appeared in court charged with two counts of rape following an alleged assault in Northallerton.

Officers were called at about 01:15 BST on Thursday to reports that a woman had been sexually assaulted at an address in the town, North Yorkshire Police said.

Jacob Chambers, 26, of Easington Colliery in County Durham, is also charged with wounding with intent and aggravated burglary.

He appeared before York magistrates earlier and will next appear at the city's crown court on 29 June.
