Guernsey had hottest June since records began

On hottest day on record the temperature was 36.4C

Guernsey has had its warmest June since records began in 1843, meteorologists have said.

Guernsey Met said 25 June was the hottest day on record with a temperature of 36.4C (97.5F)

It added the heatwave between the 22 and 25 June recorded temperatures above 30C (86F) for four consecutive days.

The coldest June temperature recorded was 10.7C (51.26F) and May was also the warmest on record, it said.

Guernsey Met said the average temperature in Guernsey during June was 17.5C (63.5F), in comparison to the 30 year average between 1991 and 2020, of 14.8C (58.6F).

The previous warmest June was in 1846 where the average was 17.3C (63.1F) and the coldest was in 1972 when the temperature was 11.3C (52.3F)

Guernsey saw 37.3mm (1.4 inches) of rainfall in June. In comparison the 30-year average, 1991 to 2020, was 47.9mm (1.8 inches).

The wettest June on record was in 1986 with 129.7mm (5.1 inches) of rainfall and the driest was in 1925 with 0.0mm (0 inches) of rainfall.
