Jersey Met said there had been "multiple records broken" in May

The warmest ever May has been recorded in Jersey, according to the Met Office.

In a post on social media, the forecaster said the island experienced "unprecedented heat with multiple records broken", with a temperature of 0.7C (33.2F) above the previous record.

It said the average temperature for the month was 16.5C (61.7F) and the warmest day was 34.2C (93.6F) on 26 May - the hottest ever recorded in May or June for the island since records began in 1894.

The forecaster said a five day heatwave was recorded between 24 and 28 June, which it said was the "earliest heatwave in any year".
