Changes approved for key ambulance access route

BBC A sweeping aerial view shows the overdale site and winding roads. In the foreground, a patchwork of green and tan fields is divided by hedgerows and narrow lanes, some dotted with hay bales. A steep embankment or cliff edge separates part of the farmland from lower residential buildings. At the centre, a cluster of larger properties and outbuildings sits among trees, surrounded by smaller homes and winding roads. Further inland, the town becomes denser, with rows of houses and a street grid extending toward open countryside. The coastline arcs gently into the distance, giving a sense of the town’s layout between sea and rural land.BBC
It's hoped the changes make the area safer and more accessible

The roads committee in St Helier has unanimously approved plans to make changes to improve safety and accessibility to Westmount Road.

The road will be a main access road for ambulances travelling to and from a new hospital and designers have suggested a series of measures to improve it.

Automatic signals will tell islanders to slow down near the hairpin bend to allow ambulances and buses to pass safely.

The hairpin bend will also be made wider so it is easier for vehicles to pass each other and those coming up the hill will have priority over those going down.

Important vehicles such as ambulances and buses will have technology to activate a traffic signal, asking other vehicles to stop and wait for them to pass.

Further permissions will return to the committee at a later date.
