Arrest after pedestrian dies in car crash

A woman died when she was hit by a car just outside Birmingham city centre.

Police were called to Dartmouth Middleway, just before 02:30 BST on Saturday, after the 28-year-old pedestrian was hit by a black Audi RS Q8.

The driver, a 22-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving while under the influence of drugs, police said, and remained in custody.

A spokesperson for the force appealed for witnesses to the crash or any drivers who were in the area at the time with dashcam footage, to contact the force.
