Police have appealed for witnesses after a boy who was struck by a lorry died in hospital.

The collision happened in Epping Road, Chipping Ongar, Essex, at about 16:40 BST on Friday.

Officers arrested the lorry's 48-year-old driver, from Derbyshire, at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

He was released on bail until September while an investigation continued.

"The child sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital where, sadly, he died," a police spokesman said.

Specialist officers have been supporting the family of the child, whose age has not been revealed.

Epping Road, which connects Chipping Ongar with North Weald Bassett, was closed after the incident.

Detectives "continue to appeal for witnesses and anyone driving in the vicinity at the time who may have captured footage on dash cam to contact them", the spokesman added.
