'End of an era' as much-loved park walkway closes
Moors Valley Country ParkAn elevated walkway that has been a family favourite for 35 years has closed for good after safety checks.
Moors Valley Country Park, on the Dorset-Hampshire border, said the wooden Tree Top Trail had "reached the end of its natural lifespan".
Hundreds of people reacted on Facebook, calling it the "end of an era" and pleading for the 200m (650ft)-long walkway to be rebuilt.
The park said it was considering how to use the space in the future.
In a statement, it said: "After careful maintenance checks, we're sad to say we have had to close the Tree Top Trail.
"We know it holds a special place in the memories of so many of our visitors, volunteers and rangers."
One Facebook user commented: "This is awful news! The tree top trail is our favourite bit of Moors Valley.
"For children who find the play trail and playground equipment difficult to use and access due to sensory issues, the TTT provides a space to decompress from overwhelm and a unique experience."
Some people posted pleas for a crowdfunding campaign to rebuild the walkway and make it accessible to pushchairs and wheelchairs.
The park responded: "Sadly it is going forever but we're taking time to carefully consider what the space could be used for."
The walkway offered a 5m (16ft)-high view of forest and wetland areas at the country park, which is near Ringwood and Verwood.
