Plans submitted for four padel courts on farmland
FotoAndalucia / Getty ImagesPlans have been submitted to build four padel courts on a site near Beverley.
In addition to the courts, the proposed development at Molescroft Farm would also include a car park with 16 standard bays, two accessible bays and a pair of electric vehicle charging points.
Plans submitted to East Riding of Yorkshire Council said the site is next to an existing nursery building and the land is "relatively level, well-screened by mature boundary planting, and visually contained by existing buildings and landscape features".
However, one objection to the plan described the "repetitive gunshot sound of padel balls hitting the court, glass and mesh walls from early morning until late into the evening".
According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, the proposed hours for the padel site are 06:00 to 22:00.
Access to the facility would be on Grange Lane, off Grange Way.
If approved, it would be adjacent to the proposed Molescroft Solar Farm, plans for which were submitted in summer 2025.
Padel has been described by the Lawn Tennis Association as the "fastest growing sport in the world".
It is a mixture of tennis and squash and is played on a court which is 25% smaller than those used for tennis and has a wall around it, which can be used to play shots off.
A number of plans for padel courts have been submitted across East Yorkshire, including at Driffield Rugby Club and an application last month to convert tennis courts at Norwood Recreation Park in Beverley.
