Bus lane penalty cameras installed on city streets
BBC/Naj ModakNew bus lane enforcement measures aimed at improving journey times have now gone live.
Six cameras have been installed on London Road, Abbeydale Road and Ecclesall Road in Sheffield to stop unauthorised drivers entering or parking along the designated bus routes.
The devices automatically detect vehicles parking in bus lanes during the times when restrictions are in operation.
As part of Sheffield City Council's Connecting Sheffield programme, the authority said it hoped the cameras will help make using public transport "a more attractive option" by keeping bus lanes clear to improve journey times.
Penalty charge notices (PCNs) of £70 will be issued to drivers caught breaking the rules, which will be reduced to £35 if paid within 21 days. However, during the first month of operation, motorists will receive warning notices only.
Any PCNs issued by on-street civil enforcement officers during this period will still be enforceable.
BBC/Naj ModakThe locations of the enforcement cameras are: Abbeydale Road (corner of Miller Road), Ecclesall Road (near Hickmott Road), and London Road (outside The Potato Oven, on the corner of Keeton's Hill, near Bennett Street and opposite Randall Place).
The council asked motorists to look out for signage along these roads.
Connecting Sheffield: Abbeydale Road and Ecclesall Road is being delivered by Sheffield City Council and part-funded by the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority.
