Police were called to the crash on the M50 early on Friday morning

A woman has been arrested on suspicion of drink-driving after a crash on the M50 saw a newborn baby being taken to hospital.

The eastbound side of the motorway between junction one for Tewkesbury and junction two for Ledbury was closed for several hours after a Peugeot 308 crashed with the nearside barrier at about 06:15 BST on Monday.

The driver and an eight-day-old baby were taken to hospital for treatment, West Mercia Police said.

The force said a 37-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of driving while under the influence of alcohol. Officers have appealed for any witnesses or those who may have dashcam footage to get in contact.
