'No criminal offences' after boy fell ill from vape use

No criminal offences have been found after an 11-year-old boy fell ill after using a vape, police have said.

Avon and Somerset Police opened an investigation after emergency services were called to The Italian Gardens in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset, on 7 April, to reports a boy had become unwell.

A teenage boy was arrested the following day, and a teenage girl attended a voluntary interview, but police have now confirmed no further action will be taken against them.

No evidence was found that the vape, which had been used by the boy as well as other children, had been laced with any other substance.

Insp Lee Kerslake said: "We fully appreciate the concerns this incident raised and detailed enquiries have been completed by officers during the last week.

"This work has identified no criminal offences in connection with this incident. The boy's family have been updated of this outcome.

"We continue to work closely with all our partners in the town to protect the public from harm and this includes us taking action wherever we find illegal vapes being sold."
