Brayan David Saldarriaga was fatally stabbed on Monday evening

A teenager has been charged with murder after a 15-year-old boy was stabbed to death in east London.

Police were called at about 19:15 BST on Monday to reports of a "large gathering, disorder and sightings of individuals in possession of machetes in Towpath Walk" in Hackney Wick.

Officers and paramedics found Brayan David Saldarriaga, from Haringey, north London, with stab wounds in nearby Poplar Close, where he was pronounced dead.

A 16-year-old, who cannot be named because of his age, was also charged with possession of a bladed article. He will appear at Thames Magistrates' Court on Saturday.

Brayan's next-of-kin are being supported by specialist officers, the Metropolitan Police said.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the force.
