
Malawi’s health minister says cyclone was ‘totally unexpected’
Malawi’s Health Minister Khumbize Kandodo Chiponda says Cyclone Freddy, which battered her country, is the most devastating ever in the nation’s recent history.
More than 220 people in Malawi have died in floods and mudslides caused by Tropical Storm Freddy, and tens of thousands have lost their homes. Health Minister Khumbize Kandodo Chiponda says Freddy is one of the most devastating cyclones ever in her country's recent history, and was “totally unexpected”.
The former head of the Constitutional Court of the Central African Republic reveals how she refused to bow to Russian pressure to allow President Faustin-Archange Touadera to run for a third term. We also hear from journalist Clement Di Roma who has researched and documented the rising influence of the Russian paramilitary Wagner group in the Central African Republic.
And the US Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, on a visit to Ethiopia, highlights the importance of the peace agreement between the federal government and Tigrayan rebel forces, and also announces more than $300m in aid for Ethiopia.
