
Cyclone Freddy: Malawi death toll rises as rains ease
Malawi says more than 220 people are now known to have died in floods and mudslides caused by Tropical Storm Freddy.
A huge rescue operation continues in Malawi to look for survivors of the storm that has devastated the country. Rains have begun to ease but the death toll has risen to 225 people. Health Minister Khumbize Kandodo Chiponda says one of the biggest challenges is trying to reach people in cut-off areas.
The US Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, seeks to intensify America’s engagement with Africa, with a two-nation trip to Ethiopia and Niger.
And the former head of the Constitutional Court of the Central African Republic reveals how she refused to bow to Russian pressure to allow President Faustin-Archange Touadera to run for a third term.
