Who's Who: Characters in The Chase
George Williams (Keith Barron)
Head vet of Chevin Chase. He is father of Anna and Sarah and his first wife Imogen died. Now he's marrying Claudie (episode one).
George is an old school vet who really cares for the animals and believes in using intuition and his own skills when treating them – not new-fangled technology such as ultra-sound machines.
He's much respected in the local community for always being available to treat farm animals (even if it's Christmas Day) and for taking in PDSA cases even if it does mean that the practice is somewhat strapped for cash.
Anna Williams (Gaynor Faye)
Anna is the daughter of George, wife of Tom Bedford, mother of Daisy, Jake and Luca and expecting baby Imogen (arrives in episode one).
She's a very experienced vet who inherited her love of animals from her father but is frequently frustrated with his lack of business acumen and the endless battle to make the books meet.
Anna misses her sister Sarah and takes comfort in her absence from their close friend Fiona who is also a nurse at the practice (and the woman her husband Tom had a drunken one night stand with – although Anna is unaware of such shenanigans).
Sarah Williams (Nicola Stephenson)
Sarah is George's second daughter, who moved to London following the death of her mother and the discovery of her brother-in-law's infidelity.
She lives with her boyfriend David but he's a "cheating ratbag" so she returns to Oxley and to the practice.
Back at home all sorts of emotional skeletons keep tumbling out of the closet – her mother's depression, her early love of local farmer Adrian Huby and, worst of all, working every day with her sister's betrayer, Fiona.
Tom Bedford (Nicholas Gleaves)
Tom is husband of Anna, father of Daisy, Jake, Luca, Imogen (from episode one) and of Fiona's son Theo. He is also a vet.
Having had a drunken one night stand with Fiona, Tom is desperate to keep this news from Anna but he is struggling keep their secret as he is paying maintenance to Fiona from his and Anna's joint account – supposedly into their savings.
He finds it very difficult to work with Fiona around and her close relationship with Anna is a constant source of stress for him.
Claudie Stevenson, then Williams (Michelle Holmes)
Claudie is George's new wife. She's deeply in love with George but she's also conscious that he's been sitting on a gold mine so she's happy to have encouraged him to re-mortgage the house to fund their lengthy honeymoon stay in Malta.
Fashion conscious, sex-mad and used to getting her own way, Claudie is horrified to have her hopes of a sun-drenched life dashed and to be sharing her home with George's daughters, son-in-law and several snotty, demanding grandchildren.
Fiona Jones (Heather Peace)
Fiona is single mother to Theo, by a drunken night with Tom. She works at The Chase as a vetinary nurse. Fiona is Anna and Sarah's cousin but really she is like the third sister of the family and she constantly feels like Cinderella – she was the one in the hand-me-down clothes, who trained to be a nurse not a vet, and who couldn't get the man.
Deep down she has her heart set on getting Tom for herself and Theo but how far she will go at the expense of her friendship with Anna and her job remains to be seen.
Rick Johnson (Reece Dinsdale)
Rick is the henpecked husband of Deborah and senior partner at The Chase. Rick is put upon and nagged to death by his wife but he loves his work and is a close associate of the Williams family.
Practice nurse Clare is the only one who really seems to understand what he goes through every day living with Deborah.
Deborah Johnson (Janet Dibley)
Deborah is the domineering wife of Rick and the extremely bossy practice manager for The Chase. Nag, nag, nag. And a snob.
Deborah doesn't have a nice word to say about anyone or anything. She's always right and happy to tell everyone about it. Only husband Rick understands the true reason for her constant snippiness.
Clare Burnes (Sunetra Sarker)
Clare is a practice nurse at The Chase. Young, free and single with a rip-roaring sense of humour, Clare keeps everyone happy and tries to offer some support to Rick.
Margaret Wright (Rachel Davies)
Margaret is the head nurse at The Chase and is an institution having virtually been at the practice since the building was built. She's always there – and happy to gossip about it!
Matt Lowe (Liam Garrigan)
Matt is the youngest member of the nursing team at The Chase. Despite his true calling to work with animals he dreams of leaving this all behind and becoming a rock star. And when the glamorous Sarah arrives from London he can't believe his luck.
