Power plants and nuclear waste

Nuclear power stations rarely allow visitors in their central control rooms.

Susie Emmett gets inside not one but two: the oldest nuclear power plant on earth in Obninsk, Russia and the newest on the west coast of Finland.

The world wants the power but not the waste that nuclear power plants generate.

Hearing from protesters vehemently against waste storage, the programme also reports - both above and deep below ground - on how in Finland the local community voted to have high-risk waste in rocks nearby.

"It wasn't an easy decision" says community leader Matte Voltenen. "But we believe if we want the power we have a moral responsibility to take care of the waste".
