Givin It Sum to Switchboard, & to The Ladies of Haregate
Robbie
It's about making the world more colourful

Dozens of local charities have received money from Robbie's Give It Sum - and the types of organisations can vary wildly in the kind of work they do.
Here are accounts from just two of them

Mary from North Staffordshire Gay & Lesbian Switchboard, a phone-in help-service for gay people, writes...

The listening switchboard
As you may well be aware, we have now charitable status and as a result we have been able to access funding which was previously unavailable.
In 2000 we were successful with our bid to the 'National Lottery Millenium Fund'. We were able to purchase much needed equipment in particular a minicom, which makes our services available to the deaf community.

We became confident in our organisation and felt that we would be able to develop further, hence our bid to the 'Give it Sum' fund.
Prior to this all funding for the organisation had been raised by members themselves through various discos, bucket shakes and sponsored events.
But, we have developed a great deal over the past five years, and have as an organisation celebrated twenty five years continuous service to our community.

Give It - to us!
The successful bid to the Robbie Williams 'Give it Sum' fund has meant that we have been able to purchase more IT equipment, enabling us to provide a more accessible service to our community, including a website.
In setting up our email address and website we feel that this facility has enabled us to become more visible and accessible to the greater community.
We can now be accessed by anyone, anywhere, anytime.
Even outside office hours service users are able to access information which may be of benefit to them.

Our hope will be that we will continue to find sources of funding to ensure that Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgendered people feel there is a support network for them wherever they may be - particularly in a time where advances and changes in technology mean a greater demand for, and improved access to information and help. Mary

Richard Baynes, the BBC reporter, saw for himself Give It Sum in action - in Leek...

Robbie Williams' "angels"
Robbie was a bit of an angel himself when his Give It Sum Charity handed over £7,000 to a bunch of lively ladies at the Movement to Music group on the Haregate estate in Leek.

Hargate Ladies

Based at the Haregate Comunity Centre, the group (pictured above, celebrating the grant) can now pay for trips, equipment and an extra session each week.
Doreen Knight, one of the organisers of the group, says she now loves Robbie almost more than she loves Cliff!
