Emilie Mayer's Symphony in F minor performed by the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra

Classical Live

Available for 29 days

Linton Stephens presents an afternoon of exceptional music-making from the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, prior to its appearances at the BBC Proms. Frank Bridge’s Enter Spring bursts with energy and colour, while Émilie Mayer’s Symphony in F minor offers sweeping romantic intensity. Bohuslav Martinů’s The Rock, is a rhythmic, nature-inspired orchestral study, and Jean Sibelius’ The Swan of Tuonela provides a hauntingly beautiful depiction of still, dark waters, featuring a solo cor anglais. From LSO St Luke’s, pianist Simon Crawford-Phillips is joined by pianist Philip Moore and violist Lawrence Power in a week of specially recorded performances from the pianist with friends. And also specially recorded items from the National Centre for Early Music and BBC R3 New Generation Baroque Ensemble - Ensemble Augelletti.
