What should pre-school children learn?
Women in Hong Kong and South Africa working in early years education tell Datshiane Navanayagam about the importance of that stage in a child’s life.
What could – and should – very young children be taught? Approaches to early years education differ around the world. And while some people see childcare as a form of babysitting, to allow mothers to get back to work, others view it as a crucial part of schooling.
Datshiane Navanayagam is joined by two women from Hong Kong and South Africa who spend their lives helping young children.
Professor Nirmala Rao at the University of Hong Kong researches early childhood development and education particularly within the Asia-Pacific context. She is also editor-in-chief of Early Childhood Research Quarterly.
Jessica Blom is the director of The Centre for Early Childhood Development in South Africa, a non-profit organisation, committed to putting young children first by ensuring quality
