Burkina Faso is aiming to create a Volunteers for the Defence of the Fatherland force to help fight Islamist extremists.

Burkina Faso's military rulers have launched a drive to recruit tens of thousands of civilians for a new force called Volunteers for the Defence of the Fatherland, to help fight Islamist extremists.

We hear from the lead author of a new report that exposes the illicit fishing on Africa's Atlantic coastline.

And South Africa's first black student to graduate with a degree in engineering back in 1961, recalls his university years under apartheid, and says he knew he was facing “very heavy odds at the time.”
