At least 31 killed in Nigeria church stampede

Nigerian police say they have launched an investigation after 31 people died in a crush in the southern city of Port Harcourt, where a church was handing out food to the poor.

Ethiopia’s state-appointed human rights body has called for the release of journalists and others who have been detained in what the authorities say is a security crackdown.

And Sudan's military government has lifted a six-months state of emergency.
