Ukraine: South Africans want to help fight against Russia

On day nineteen of the Russian invasion of Ukraine fighting across many regions continues. There has been ongoing shelling in the cities of Kyiv and Kharkiv and hundreds are still trying to flee.

Winds in excess of 100mph (165km/h) and heavy rain fall have battered the north of Mozambique and southern Malawi. Search and rescue efforts are underway in both countries where so far seventeen people have died. Mozambique’s Nampula region has been particularly affected and remains inaccessible and without power.

In Zambia, President Hakainde Hichilema has declared seven days of national mourning following the death of Rupiah Banda who passed away on Friday. Mr Banda was Zambia’s fourth president and was in power between 2008 and 2011. He will be laid to rest on March 18 in the capital Lusaka.
