'Cactus Pears': Groundbreaking Gay Romance Set in Rural India get UK Release
It was the first Indian fiction film to win the World Cinema Dramatic Grand Jury Prize at the prestigious Sundance Film Festival; now this week, 'Cactus Pears,' by Rohan Kanawade, is released in cinemas in the UK and Ireland. The British co-production is viewed as groundbreaking within the South Asian film community, as the Marathi-language movie shows a love story between two men in rural India, where the LGBTQ community is seldom depicted on screen.
