The stone circle built by hand

It was to help people seek a new way of life – they held pagan rites and built a stone circle by hand, until tensions rose into witchcraft, conflict and abandonment.

In the 1990s, Eleanor Anstruther opened her land on Hascombe Hill to a growing community of people seeking an alternative way of life. They gathered for pagan ceremonies and built a stone circle by hand.

Life on the hill was idyllic – but as the community expanded, so did tensions, ending in accusations of witchcraft, fractured loyalties and the loneliness of a site slowly reclaimed by nature.

Contains brief mentions of drug use in a historical context.
