The history of Shibden Hall

Shibden Hall in Halifax has been home to a number of noble families including the Listers.

The Grade II listed property was first mentioned in documents in 1420 and was made famous by landowner Ms Lister, who was the focus of the BBC drama, Gentleman Jack. It has been a family home for 500 years, with the Listers acquiring the property in 1619. Ms Lister later inherited the Hall in 1826 aged 34. Richard MacFarlane is the Guardian of Shibden Hall and spoke to Gayle Lofthouse about the 15th century property.
