Is it time to redesign our coins?
It’s been almost seven years since the current coin design depicting the shield of arms on the reverse was introduced.
Frances Simmons, a coin expert, suggests coins should more identifiable.
"You ought to be able to recognise it being from a particular country," she said.
Simmons' favourite coin designs is the Irish Free State series from 1928 designed by Percy Metcalfe featuring the country's agricultural and sporting animals.
