Inspired by Serial? Explore the roots of the radio documentary
Radio storytelling has received a boost of interest following the immensely popular American podcast 'Serial'.
The concept of the radio documentary dates back to 1920s Europe. Its history has been explored by Virginia Madsen, senior lecturer at Macquaire University in Sydney. She explains that radio documentary has been largely ignored as a form, despite originating at roughly the same time as film documentary.
