Water of Life

Pam Rhodes visits Ashburnham Place Retreat Centre in East Sussex to introduce much-loved hymns that explore the profound meaning of water in the Bible and in the Christian faith.

As we enjoy the summer months, Pam Rhodes visits Ashburnham Place Retreat Centre in East Sussex to introduce a feast of much-loved hymns that explore the profound meaning of water in the Bible and in the expression of Christian faith.

Surrounded by acres of ancient woodland and glorious lakes, Ashburnham Place provides a peaceful setting for Pam to reflect on the profound significance of water in the scriptures – from the story of creation to Jesus offering the water of eternal life.

Pam also tells stories of composers for whom water proved a source of inspiration, with hymns and worship songs from across the UK, including Here Is Love Vast as the Ocean, performed by Unoma Okudo; I Heard the Voice of Jesus Say, from Our Lady's Church, York; and Like a Mighty River Flowing, from St George’s Church in Jesmond.

Also featured are: O the Deep, Deep Love of Jesus, from St David's Church, Exeter; Rain, led by Noel Robinson at the Church of Christ the Cornerstone, Milton Keynes; and As the Deer Pants for Water, from Inverness Cathedral.
