It was a huge night in British politics last night as former Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham won the Makerfield by-election. Despite Labour struggling in national polls, Burnham increased their vote share in Makerfield by ten points compared to 2024. In his acceptance speech, Burnham said that "politics isn't working", but in his view "this could be the turning point". Burnham has previously said he would seek to join a Labour leadership contest, but Prime Minister Keir Starmer also insists he would stand and fight. So is Andy Burnham the answer?

The gender pay gap in Wales has widened to 9.7%, a new report has found. The Women's Equality Network Wales, who wrote the report, also found that women are three times more likely than men to be economically inactive due to caring responsibilities. Flintshire had the widest pay disparity in Wales, with men there earning 26% more than women on average. So, can you believe there is still such a big disparity?
