Clare Connor and women's cricket, Archers BRCA storyline
The head of women's cricket in England reflects on her long career as a player and leader.
The Women’s T20 cricket world cup begins on Friday. Nuala McGovern talks to Clare Connor, former England women’s captain, now the outgoing Managing Director of England Women. Over her 18 years in the job Clare has overseen the professionalisation of the women’s game as well as a big boost in the grassroots participation.
The Archers on BBC Radio 4 has been exploring cancer genetics of late. When Pip discovered a lump in her breast, old fears were revived for her mother Ruth, who survived breast cancer many years earlier. BRCA genes are tumour suppressor genes that every person has. Inherited faults or mutations in these genes, known specifically as BRCA1 and BRCA2, can lead to a higher chance of developing cancer and Pip begins to worry she may be at risk. Felicity Finch, who plays Ruth Archer, joins Nuala along with Julian Barwell, Professor in Genomic Medicine at The University of Leicester.
