Fatoumata Diawara's Return Journey
Lopa Kothari selects roots-based music from across the globe; and Fatoumata Diawara shares her two Return Journey tracks: one for the road and one that takes her home.
Lopa Kothari curates a selection of roots-based music from across the globe, including a recently-released slice of Sufi Hispano-Pakistani fusion from Aziz Balouch, taken from the intimate piano and guitar recordings he made in Spain in the '60s. Plus a lively Norwegian springar courtesy of a trio comprising Mats Edén (fiddle), Tellef Kvifte (sea flute) and Knut Kvifte Nesheim (percussion). And, looking forward to her upcoming appearance at Liverpool's Africa Oyé Festival next month, the Grammy-nominated Malian singer, songwriter and guitarist Fatoumata Diarawa offers up her Return Journey choices: a track that reminds her of travelling, and one that takes her home.
