Autumn 1916: Edith, Aylmer and Bruce remain in their infernal, triangular charade and seem as helpless and doomed as they ever were.

Edith's scheme of shuttling between Aylmer (the love of her life) in Jermyn Street and Bruce (her hopeless former husband) in Sloane Street, is not going to work.

What on earth, Edith wonders, is to become of them all...?
