BBC Worldwide signs groundbreaking deals with Spanish broadcasters
BBC Worldwide has increased its presence in Spain by agreeing three major deals with television broadcasters in the region.
A landmark agreement has been secured with TVE in Spain to form a major strategic partnership. The five-year output and pre-sales agreement includes the broadcasting of Fimbles, a further 120 episodes of Tweenies, Planet Earth and about 50 hours of blue-chip titles.
Jose-Luis Roncal, Director of Acquisitions, TVE says, " We are delighted to be doing business with BBC Worldwide once again. We have had great success with BBC natural history programming in the past and we are looking forward to seeing the new-pre sales package in our primetime slots."
In another exclusive deal, Localia - Spain's local television network, made up of 70 TV stations - has secured a branded slot. The one-hour scheduled slot will consist of science and biography documentaries on Saturday night primetime. The Localia channels will be the only free-to-air channels to broadcast a BBC Exclusive slot.
FORTA, the Spanish regional channels network, has agreed a deal with Spanish film distributor Wanda Films together with BBC Worldwide, for the broadcast and distribution rights of Deep Blue, the theatrical version of The Blue Planet, which was launched at the San Sebastian film Festival this September.
