Skyvan and the Miles Aerovan

Mark Wakem - Jan '06
Probably too late to catch you, but the Skyvan was a modified version of a Miles project development of the Aerovan theme, sold by Miles to Shorts

Karl W Smith - December '04
I've always thought there was a marked similarity between the Aerovan - especially the experimental one fitted with a Hurel-Dubois high aspect ratio wing.

Short's Skyvan was a utilitarian aeroplane, as was the Miles Aerovan. The Aerovan was novel in its day but was really too small to be of any practical value to operators (my own opinion, no evidence except the hindsight of 50 years in aviation).

Is it sacrilege to compare the Skyvan with the Miles Aerovan? I remember as a photographer in my "Whig"/"Newsletter" days photographing the first post-war Hillman Minx arriving at Sydenham, also a badly injured motor bike rider, Artie Bell, being brought back from a race.

I must say, from my fast failing memory, the Skyvan and the Aerovan looked mighty alike.
