Peatlands Park

An Autumnal Stroll

John Gregg talks to Valerie Hall and Ronnie Irvine
'Step up to the microphone please...'

Autumn is a great time of year for taking a walk in the countryside to admire the orange, yellow and red of the brightly coloured leaves as they turn. Lucky John Gregg got the chance to do just that as part of his job! On a bright, sunny morning in October he met up with Valerie Hall and Ronnie Irvine for a stroll through Peatlands Park for the Your Place & Mine programme.

For those of you who fancy a stroll there yourself, Peatlands Country Park is just off the M1 close to Dungannon. Opened in 1990, it is managed by the Environment and Heritage Service and includes a rich diversity of habitats. Within the park there are two National Nature Reserves with unique flora and fauna species, many of which are found nowhere else in Northern Ireland.

The Park covers such a big area, over 600 acres, it was obvious that John and his fellow walkers would only be able to visit a few places in the park. Bogs are not always easily accessible, so one place they didn't want to miss seeing was the bog garden....
