Queen play Hyde Park
18 September 1976
After the success of "Bohemian Rhapsody" and "You're My Best Friend", Queen wanted to pay the British fans back for back their loyalty over the years. Their idea was to stage a massive free concert. With the help of Richard Branson they started making plans for Hyde Park; and off the back of this decided that they wanted to do more than just a one off gig and planned a mini tour. It is estimated that between 150-200 thousand people turned up for the event, which is still a record for Hyde Park to this day. They began with 'Bohemian Rhapsody', Freddie burst onto the stage wearing a specially made white leotard, later changed to a Black leotard with a diamante studded crotch. In the end the show overran and the police wouldn't allow an encore and threatened to arrest Freddie if he went back on stage.
I was there

Yeh I was there too! I remember when Queen came onstage, most people were sat down. Those that stood were either getting canned or bottled. One bloke jumping around in front of us avoided the cans and bottles buy using a wooden box to cover his head! Those were the days lolJasmine
Queen Forever!!!!!!!!No-one but you, Mercury. What a loss to the world.Paul,UK
Queen- The greatest band the world has ever seen, and will see. They have never been given the true recognition for what they have given to the music world.THE BEATLES,oh dear, how wrong can you be.NM Manchester,UK
I first saw Queen live in 1975 at the Free Trade Hall in Manchester..I was lucky enough to see them play live 6 times. The whole band were supremely talented...all contributing to their massive collection of top 10 hits.Freddie came alive on the stage. It's like he was born to perform. The greatest band ever!Monica in the USA

Freddie Mercury was and still is the greatest showman ever.Im too young to have seen Queen as im only 28 but i have Live Aid on dvd.One word WOW. He had a voice to die for and totally owned that stage. A truly remarkable one off.Klyn Rodgers, New Zealand
QUEEN ROCKS! And I can sympathise with what gvanTSula was saying - i was born in 1991 - 6 days before Freddie died, so...But yeah, for a young muso, Queen are really inspiring, Brian was the one who made me want to learn to play guitar in the first place, and really get into the music i had had as a backdrop my whole life (piano, aged 6 and completing Grade 8 Theory at the end of last year). I feel sorry for the fans at the Hyde Park concert, tho. Imagine not being able to have an encore! That must suck!Queen ROCKS! ! =Dsylvie mexico
last year I was in London and I visited hyde park ,Dominion We will rockyou and Iwas so so so happygvanTSula
at first, i want to sorry for my english.. i just don't know what to say.. love freddie very much, but i dont want they to call me "a fan of Freddie and Queen".. my life isnot perfectly good, im just a looser here and waiting for another live.. i dont know what's love, but know, that my feeling with this band isnot a usuall one.. sometimes i m relly sorry that i was born in 1990, because couldnot see freddie alive, i'm relly sorry that i dont know Bryan, Roger, John... but what would i do if i knew? i dont know.. I'm from Tbilisi, Georgia and it's too far from them.. i wish i were much more older, that could see them, but who am I for these persons? no one... but my blue life still goes on.. i even dont know why i'm telling my story to the readers, may you are not interested in my personalyty, of caurce, why you are! but i do that, because i'm close to my lover people - Queen...Gvantsa Kordzakhia, aged 17.. Tbilisi, Georgia...
