| | Your chance to enjoy the stage play based on the hit TV sitcom 'Allo 'Allo. It's on at the Palace Theatre in Redditch |
 | | | David Croft had already had one hit sitcom set in WW2 - the evergreen Dad's Army written with Jimmy Perry - when he came up with the idea of 'Allo 'Allo, this time written with Jeremy Lloyd.
The serious drama series it parodied - Secret Army - is long forgotten, but 'Allo 'Allo is till popular, and still a regular feature of TV schedules.
The Palace Theatre is presenting the stage version of the exploits of René, his harem of girlfriends, the French resistance and their struggle with the worringly lovable German occupying forces.
In the play René, the hapless café owner in war-torn occupied France, and his wife, Edith, struggle to keep for themselves a priceless portrait stolen by the Nazis and kept in a sausage in their cellar.
René is hiding two British airmen and is endeavouring, with the help of the Resistance, to repatriate them.
However, communications with London through a wireless disguised as a cockatoo add to the many embarrassments he endures in the company of his patrons.
Matters come to a head with the news that the Führer is to visit the town and the café becomes filled with tricksters intending to impersonate Hitler before the event.
The play is being performed by the Rowney Green Players.. so listen carefully, they will say zis only once. | | | |
